1. Who We Are

contexd ("we", "our", "us") operates the contexd.app platform. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable data protection laws.

2. Data We Collect

Account data: Email address, name, and hashed password (for email/password accounts). For Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email from Google.

User content: Files you upload (PDFs, images, documents, audio), notes you create, chat conversations, and task data. This content is stored to provide the service.

Usage data: We track credit usage for billing purposes. We do not use analytics or tracking cookies.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and operate the contexd platform
• To process your files with AI models (Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude) for chat, quiz generation, podcast creation, and file analysis
• To sync your data with Google Drive (when you connect it)
• To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
• To manage your subscription and credit balance

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate contexd:

• Google Gemini API — for AI chat, quiz generation, podcast scripts, and file analysis
• Anthropic Claude API — as an alternative AI model (Contexd+ tier)
• Neon (PostgreSQL) — database hosting
• Vercel Blob — file storage
• Google OAuth — social sign-in
• Resend — transactional emails

Your files and content may be sent to AI providers (Google, Anthropic) for processing. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies and do not use your data for training.

5. Cookies

We use only essential cookies:

• Session cookie — to keep you logged in (next-auth.session-token)
• Theme preference — stored in localStorage (not a cookie)

We do not use tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Rectify inaccurate data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Restrict processing of your data
• Object to processing of your data

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data, files, notes, chats, and tasks are permanently deleted within 30 days.

8. Data Security

We protect your data using encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted database connections, hashed passwords (bcrypt), and access controls. However, no system is 100% secure.
